Profile
Through my studies and research projects I have tried to apply the knowledge of the civil engineer into the study of the structural aspects of the historic built environment and its conservation. My current research focuses on the structural behaviour and design of vaulted systems, particularly Gothic. In my teaching I want to explore how the technical aspects and achievements of structural design through history can inform the design of new buildings.
Other current projects in the field include studies on the durability of historic masonry and the conservation of archaeological structures. I also have a strong interest in the development of modern shell architecture, and particular how this has been expressed in the work of Hispanic designers and early pioneers.
