Profile
I was Head of Architecture at the University of Edinburgh from 2002 to 2006. I am a practising architect - I enjoy the balance between research, teaching and practice, and firmly believe that each informs the other. I am a partner in E &F McLachlan Architects, which has won a number of design competitions, including housing in both suburban and city centre locations. The practice is currently working on two further social housing projects.
I have been involved in research and teaching at Edinburgh University since 1989. My main role is in architectural design, which I teach throughout the school. My current role is mainly in the third and fourth years of the Architectural Design course, but I am also involved in first year. My secondary role is in running Professional Practice and Management courses, along with the professional studies components of the curriculum.
